Virtual Production – 3D Modeling and Assets
I had a fantastic opportunity to assist in recreating the set of a short film fan adaptation of Fallout in 3D. During the production, Director Nigel Kim needed additional shots for a specific scene, but unfortunately, the original location was no longer available. I was brought on board to capture images, references, clips of scenes, and behind-the-scenes footage to recreate each prop present on the original set. I worked closely with our VFX engineer, who programmed in Unreal Engine and broadcasted the environment onto a 120ft LED wall.
Using Blender, I crafted the 3D models, applied shading and textures, and imported them into Unreal Engine. With the help of the GitHub implementation, I made real-time adjustments and improvements to the scenes during production.
A few months later, I collaborated with Director Nigel Kim and his lead editor to create an early opening shot of the vault elevator door in Fallout Deadweight. We rigged a model of the main character and had him walk to the door. I worked with Nigel on the timing and pacing of the movements of the animated character, as well as environmental visual elements such as the background and the pacing of the door opening. I collaborated with the editor on exporting each file to an EXR, correcting issues such as lighting passes to ensure that the editor’s transition into his work was seamless.
